Lower Pine 7-26-11

We ended up doing some shuffling this week due to storms predicted for our normal fishing nite. So we all got our stuff together and got on the road and headed back up to Lower Pine to try an evening fish. It was not the same lake… haha… but they never are. Only 1 keeper was caught and that was by Brad. He actually caught the keeper in the creek channel between Upper and Lower Pine in like 1ft of water. Top water bite was not present much. It was just an all around much slower nite and probably a more normal night for that lake. Which begs the question… “Why was Saturday so Good??”

Upper Pine Challenge 7-23-11

The challenge is still on! Weather is threatening an early start but storm chances, at this point in time, are only as high as 40%. My goal is to be up and on the water between 7am and 8am. Since I have never fished this lake before I’m not exactly sure how we’ll start. I am thinking as the sun comes out and the temps start tp rise that fishing along the dam with craws and drop shots will be the ticket… maybe even around the island as it transitions to deeper water fairly quickly.  I think my opening plan will be fish toward the back of the lake.  It seems the further you get away from the ramp the shallower it gets.  Maybe with such a big Shallow end there will be some good frog fishing in the morning or even in the heat of mid day.  I have been pumped all week and am very excited to get going tomorrow.  I pulled the most recent IADNR electrofishing survey from 5/26 and the results excite me.   In their survey the shocked 17 bass from 14″-16″, 7 bass from 16″-18″, 3 bass from 18″-20″, and 4 bass 20″-24″!  The fact that they shocked that many bass shows me that this could be a good fishery since they only shock a small sampling of a lake when they do shock it.  Hopefully those fish are still there and are hungry for my lures tomorrow.  I have rambled enough,  so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.  I am hoping for at least 1 bass of 4-5lbs and that shows my optimism right there.

AMOutDoors Site Changes

AMOutdoors is going thru a lot of changes with the web design lately. We are always updating the website and making changes as we see fit.

Here are a list of new changes we are working on for the new website

* Recently added new Kids of AMO – this is a section for all the AMO youths to have their own section.  IFyou have a child under the age of 16 and want to share their outdoor photo please visit our visitor section and upload their photo!

* Recently added plugin to completely redo the AMO site when viewed from a mobile device – This change should help speed up browsing on mobile devices.   The big key at this time is that there is a drop down arrow at the top right of the mobile page that will allow you to navigate 75% of the website at this time.   The mobile site can be disabled as well if you just scroll to the bottom of the page and switch off the mobile theme.

*Update Website from any computer – WordPress – DONE

*Give a More Professional Look – DONE

*Possiblity for Users to Comment on Pages/Image – pages are done – looking for photo comment app

* Update Web Page from Cell Phone – word press app – waiting for further app improvement – however can be done with any mobile phone with IE browser – done

* Upload Photos from Cell Phone – nggmanager app – in beta but has promise for android phones – This is completely possible with any cell phone with an IE browser – done

* Multiple Website Admins – currently have Mike, Andrew, Jason, Robyn, and Carly – done

IF you have a request for an upgrade or an Enhancement to the site please leave it in the comments below and it will be added to the changes list!  thanks!

WNF – 7-20-11 Cancelled!

Due to the excessive heat we’ve been in I’ve decided to cancel another WNF. I am pretty sure I got a little heat exhaustion on Friday when we were at the Omaha Zoo so I’m not too anxious to put myself back out into that heat. It looks like the heat should break a bit for Saturday’s Lower Pine Challenge and that is still a go. I think we’ll just get up early to be on the water at first light and fish away. I am really hopeful for this trip. I sure hope it pans out.

WNF – 7-13-11

I am definately behind this week. I spent time getting AMOutDoors on Facebook instead of giving my normal weekly predictions for WNF. So here are the results. The three of us went to Hickory Grove. We launched from the south ramp and worked our way east along the south shore. We only picked up a few very short bass here and there and once we got to the tubes we decided to make a drastic move. We motored all the way down to the dam. We fished the dam with craws and top water and we did much better. Not great but much better. The first first caught off the dam was a 15.5″ caught on a MoneyCraw. We fished the damn a couple of times picking up a few 12″-14″ fish each pass. As light was fading fast we started to head back to the ramp. We continued to fish the South Shore using craws and frogs. Bert was able to pick up the biggest bass of the night at 16″ just below the primitive campgrounds. I did not catch a keeper and caught a few bass on the frog but the fast and furious catching with the frog has definately started to dwindle. Still a great pattern for over a month!

Next weeks WNF is up in the air… No location has been decided and Brad maybe on vacation so may just be Bert and myself.

WNF – 7-6-11

Ada Hayden here we come!!   I have not been to Ada Hayden in quite awhile as the wind and weather has been terrible.  Tonights forecast looks pretty good.  As of right now they are calling for 7-6mph winds out of the ENE and temps starting at 83 and dropping to 79 degrees at sunset.  Should be good fishing even with these bluebird conditions.  There is supposed to be a system moving thru tomorrow so hopefully the fish get their feed on. My prediction for tonight will be the Jerk-a-licious will out preform all other lures and will be especially successful on the wind swept shorelines.  Hopefully Brad will attend and with winds that slow he should be able to sneak away from work.  If not it will be Bert and myself.  I am not sure what Bert will throw, athough, I imagine the weeds have grown quite a bit so maybe the frog or even a crankbait run over or on the outter edge of the weeds should produce as well and might be berts go to baits.  We shall see.

Photos of the Month

Just a reminder to check back on July 1st as Photo’s of the Month will be updated for June.

Photos of the Month will be the highlighted photos for the month before.  For example currently it’s May and April’s photo’s of the month are being scrolled… at the beginning of June we will have photos of May being scrolled, so photos will always be 1 month behind.  These photos will be judged for now by a small panel but as the new website takes shape we may open up a gallery for user voting and then you the visitors will be able to decide what photos are shown.

WNF – 6-22-11

Plan for tonight will be different in the fact that both Brad and Bert will not be attending.  Bert is traveling to AZ to get Meggs settled in her new home and Brad is on vacation with his kids.  So it will just be me fishing tonight.  I still plan on going to Hickory Grove and starting out at the South Ramp.  We had a cold front come thru last night and so my plan will be to start by searching the honeysuckles and bushes that are over hang the water.  Seemed like last friday the fish were hanging close to the bank in those bushes and I’m hoping that the fish are still there but just hanging tighter to that cover.  Hopefully a frog or more likely a heavily weighted tube will be the ticket.  If the fish aren’t in the bushes then I’ll back out and work a shakey head craw or drop shot worm in deeper water.  So that’s my plan we’ll see what shakes out tonight.

WNF 6-8-11

Brad is out of town this week for work and so it will be just Bert and myself again this week. The plan is Ada Hayden as dad had so much fun last week I know he wants to do it again. I however have a feeling with these past few days of 90+ that things have changed and will changed as we are supposed to get scattered strong thunderstorms today. Which could postpone our WNF (Wednesday Nite Fishing) trip. So stay tuned as if wind or storms happen this afternoon I believe this week will just be cancelled and then hopefully we’ll pick backup with Brad next Wed. It’s been awhile since we’ve fished with him.
